Now that the cold weather has begun to set in, we typically reach for warm and cozy garb to defend ourselves from the chill of wintry days and nights. Some of the warmest clothing we select is made of wool—knitted (or crocheted), carded, spun, shorn from those most docile of animals, the sheep. But how does that curly fiber shorn from those sheep become the warm sweater we pull from our shelf?

Dr. John O. Hunter, president emeritus of ��Ӱֱ�� State College (1986-93), met with members of the ��Ӱֱ�� State College Honors Program recently to address “the power of poetry.”

“The times they are a changin’.”

“Not too long ago,” notes Dr. Steven J. Tyrell, vice president for student affairs at ��Ӱֱ�� State College, “a generation was considered to be about 15-20 years. Nowadays, there are more frequent marked shifts in students’ attitudes and values. The millennial generation is comprised of more than 10 distinctly different sub-populations of students. New sub-populations can emerge as quickly as every 18 months!”

Spencer Peavey, ��Ӱֱ�� State College director of Student Activities and Orientation, recently presented at the National Orientation DirectorsAssociation (NODA) conference on “Expecting More Out of Your Orientation Program: A Great Way to Incorporate Service into Your Orientation Program.” Peavey, who developed New Student Service Day four years ago, reviewed the program paired with academic and retention information.

��Ӱֱ�� State College and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), a non-academic honor society consisting of the top 1% of student leaders, announces the winners of October’s “Of The Month” (OTM) Awards.

Dr. John M. Anderson, president, ��Ӱֱ�� State College, has been named to the AASCU (American Association of State Colleges and Universities) Committee on Economic and Work Force Development (CEWD), whose mission is to help AASCU institutions enhance the scope and visibility of economic and work force development efforts in partnership with their communities and regions.

Twenty-five ��Ӱֱ�� State College students were inducted recently into Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the national Honor Society for two-year colleges. Friends and family of the inductees attended the evening ceremony at the Orvis Activities Center on the ��Ӱֱ�� State campus.
