As a part of last month’s Dream Week activities, ��Ӱֱ�� State and ��Ӱֱ�� University coordinated a community service called Day of Service. Twenty-three students, staff, and faculty members from both campuses volunteered at various locations around the area, including, Turning Point Catholic Charities, Hornell; Jones Memorial Hospital and Manor Hills, Wellsville; and St. Jude’s Chapel, ��Ӱֱ��.

Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hill) and Travis Nagle (Randolph) have been named the ��Ӱֱ�� State athletes of the week by the SID office.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State women's basketball team saw a double-digit 2nd half lead disappear but was able to score the games final five points to earn a 73-69 victory over Mercyhurst North East in a key Region III Division II contest.  The sweet Valentine's Day victory improves the Lady Pioneers to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in RIII DII while MNE is 13-5 overall and 6-1 in RIII DII play.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State men's basketball team trailed by as many as 22 points but was able to rally and cut the lead to four but Mercyhurst North East ended the game on a 10-1 to earn a 70-57 victory in a WNYAC contest on Tuesday.  MNE improves to 13-11 (5-6 WNYAC) while the Pioneers are 6-18 (1-10 WNYAC).

Because the estimated cost of spaying/neutering 101 animals is $6,000, students hope to help offset that cost by having each ��Ӱֱ�� State student contribute 101 pennies toward that goal. Students will be provided a pair of penny wrappers (donated by Steuben Trust) with a request that they are returned with 101 pennies inside.

A total of 37 universities from 13 countries have formed 24 teams that were accepted for the 2013 competition, co-hosted by the China National Energy Administration and the United States Department of Energy.

��Ӱֱ�� State has announced changes and additions to its ranks. Included are Tricia Herritt, David Sengstock, William Dean, Tammy Brackett, Travis Armison, Lynn Biancusso, Matthew Brown, Jason Cronin, Mary Louise Davis, Dr. Douglas Dune, Caroline Falcone, Loren Fuller, Jonathan Hilsher, Russell Huber, Tanya Lehman, Lyn Muxworthy, Matthew Pettis, Russell Rittenhouse, Marilyn Robin, Samantha Rollins, Sarah Steinkamp, and Cari Zobrist.

��Ӱֱ�� State wrestlers Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) and Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) qualified for the NJCAA National Championships with 2nd place finishes at the Northeast Districts/Region III Championships. As a team, the Pioneers finished 5th in the competition with 67 points.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State men’s indoor track and field team leads the Region III Championship after the multi-event.  The Pioneer trio of participants finished 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th in the heptathlon held in conjunction with Cornell University’s Kane Invitational.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State men's basketball team dropped their sixth game in 2012 by ten points or less on Saturday, 87-80 at Niagara CCC.  The Pioneers are now 6-17 overall and 1-9 in WNYAC play.

Amie Brooks (Pavilion) had a career high 29 points as the ��Ӱֱ�� State women's basketball team downed Niagara CCC to earn their 3rd straight victory and improve to 13-8 overall on the season (4-3 Region III Division II).

Erie CC conneced on 14 three-pointers and shot 51.3% for the game as they downed the ��Ӱֱ�� State men's basketball team 108-71 in a WNYAC contest.  The Pioneers are now 6-16 (1-8 WNYAC) on the season while ECC is 17-3 (7-1 WNYAC).

The ��Ӱֱ�� State women's basketball team went on the road and won a 61-50 decision over Erie CC in a key Region III Division II contest.  The Lady Pioneers second straight victory improves the team to 12-8 on the season and 3-3 in RIII DII contests.

Students enrolled in the culinary arts programs at ��Ӱֱ�� State will prepare a Mardi Gras celebration, featuring a New Orleans-style menu, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 5-7 p.m., in the student cafeteria of the Culinary Arts Building on the Wellsville campus.

“We love using local products, and our new signature burger highlights some of the best beef from right in our own backyard,” said Karen Canne, director of Dining Services. “Bron has cooked up a burger that is a perfect blend of East-West cuisine that we’re proud to serve to our customers.”

The ��Ӱֱ�� State men's basketball team trailed 44-34 at half and by as many 14 in the 2nd half but were able to claw back into the game to cut it to 77-75 in the final two minutes but were unable to get any closer as Genesee CC earned a 83-78 victory.  The Cougars are now 14-9 (6-2 WNYAC) while the Pioneers are 6-15 (1-7 WNYAC).

The ��Ӱֱ�� State women's basketball team raced out to a 26 point lead in the 1st half en route to a 78-53 victory over Genesee CC in a key Region III Division II battle.  The Lady Pioneers are now 11-8 overall and 2-3 in RIII DII contests.

Dr. L. David Pye, dean and professor of glass science emeritus at the NYS College of Ceramics at ��Ӱֱ�� University, will present “Examining The Shroud of Turin” at the ��Ӱֱ�� State New Horizons Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 215 of the Engineering Technologies Building. The public is invited free of charge; refreshments will be served prior to the event.

Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) have been named the ��Ӱֱ�� State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Because online education is becoming more popular with those who can’t, for whatever reason, attend traditional classes in an on-campus setting, the National Court Reporters’ Association wanted to find out what its member schools have learned about offering their programs online, says Blake.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State indoor track & field team had an impressive showing at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational.  The Pioneers had numerous athletes finish in the top eight of the competition that featured nine schools.

Dignitaries gathered at ��Ӱֱ�� State recently to sign the “ceremonial beam,” signifying moving from phase 1 of construction of the Student Leadership Center (the steel and concrete done by Christa Construction) to phase 2, (the move to the interior of the structure, to be done by Manning Squires Hennig Co. Inc.).

Jamestown CC was able to hold off all the comeback attempts ��Ӱֱ�� State threw at them and held on for a 62-55 victory in a tight WNYAC contest.  The Pioneers are now 6-14 on the year and 1-6 in conference play.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State women's basketball team played another tight Region III Division II contest and fell 57-54 at Jamestown CC on Thursday.  The Lady Pioneers are now 10-8 overall and 1-3 in RIII DII action.

On Jan. 25, 2012, four students from the Dr. Ron Rhoades to Binghamton, where they attended a luncheon of the Southern Tier Chapter of the Financial Planning Association.

��Ӱֱ�� State President Dr. John M. Anderson has been invited to travel to Salzburg, Austria, to participate in The Salzburg Global Seminar's Sustainable Futures Academy. He is one of a select number of higher education and sustainability leaders to take part in a special planning meeting from Jan. 31-Feb. 4.

Mehta’s presentation will consist of his reading an essay he wrote about his coming out to his parents. He will also discuss the title story of his most recently published book "Quarantine."
